Jacobabad Village Torched Over Love Marriage: Armed Mob Burns 150+ Homes

Jacobabad: A love marriage dispute in Jacobabad escalated into violence as an armed mob attacked the village of Muhammad Siddique Arain, setting fire to over 150 homes, police confirmed.

According to authorities, the incident occurred after a video of the love marriage between Sadra Channa and Mohammad Hassan Burro went viral on social media, sparking outrage in the village. Around 400 armed individuals reportedly participated in the attack, targeting the families of the couple.

Incident Details

Police stated that Sadra Channa and Mohammad Hassan Burro eloped on May 4 and legally married in Hyderabad on May 5. Following the viral video, armed attackers reportedly set fire to more than 100 homes belonging to Hassan Burro’s family.

Authorities have registered two separate FIRs: one for the alleged abduction of the girl and another for the arson attack on the village. One suspect has been arrested, while others remain at large.

Couple’s Statement

The bride, Sadra Channa, emphasized that she is an adult and married of her own free will. Groom Hassan Burro said, “My village has been burned, and my life is in danger. We need protection immediately.”

Sindh Government Response

The Sindh government has taken notice of the incident. Spokesperson Sadia Javed said that initially the girl’s family filed an abduction case, but Sadra clarified that she voluntarily married.

She added that when the attackers went to set homes on fire, police intervened and arrested five individuals. However, some suspects had obtained pre-arrest bail, preventing immediate detention.

Sadia Javed confirmed that the case is now in court, and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has instructed the government to provide immediate relief and assistance to the affected families.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by couples in Pakistan exercising their right to choose a spouse and the urgent need for law enforcement protection in such disputes.
