Pakistan Library Association Announces Election Schedule for 2026-2028 Headquarters and Branch Councils

The Pakistan Library Association (PLA) has officially released the election schedule for its headquarters and branch councils for the 2026-2028 term. The announcement was made by Sher Afzal Malik, stating that Professor Abdul Baqi Baloch, Chairman of the Department of Library and Information Science at the University of Balochistan and PLA President, has appointed Mr. Munir Ahmed Baloch as the Election Officer.
According to the schedule, branch councils are required to submit lifetime membership, renewed membership, and new membership lists to the Secretary-General by July 12, 2026. The deadline for submitting objections regarding memberships is set for July 17, 2026, while the final list of members will be published on July 30, 2026.
Prospective candidates must submit their nomination papers by August 10, 2026. The preliminary list of candidates will be released on August 20, 2026, with the deadline for filing objections against candidates set for August 28, 2026. Candidates may withdraw their nominations until September 8, 2026. Ballot papers will be sent to voters by September 15, 2026, and the Election Officer must receive all ballots by September 30, 2026. The official election results will be announced on October 10, 2026.
PLA has urged all library professionals, members, and branch councils to actively participate in the electoral process, emphasizing the importance of professional unity, democratic traditions, and organizational discipline to strengthen the development and stability of the library profession in Pakistan.
This election marks the first time the PLA headquarters will be shifted to Sindh Province, with provincial branch council and headquarters representatives from Sindh submitting their nomination papers accordingly.
