Pak-EPA issues showcause notices to managements of Monal restaurant & Gloria Jeans

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) has issued showcause notices to the managements of Monal Restaurant and Gloria Jeans Coffee for not complying with the environmental protection orders issued by the authority last year.

The agency has directed the managements of Monal and Gloria Jeans to submit replay to the showcause notices within seven days to explain as to why your restaurants shall not be sealed on account of non-compliance with environmental laws.

Failing to reply shall result in further action under the Pakistan Environmental Protection Act 1997, rules and regulations made thereunder, the notices state.

Both the commercial outlets were served environmental protection orders on February 10 last year and on October 7 same year with the directions to make proper arrangements as required by law for the disposal of solid and sewerage waste.

Despite multiple notices, the management of both restaurants failed to comply with the directions of the agency.

“Your attitude regarding non-compliance with environmental laws is not acceptable since the same is damaging the environment of the vicinity since you are not managing properly, solid and sewerage waste of your restaurant,” the showcause notices issued by Pak-EPA Deputy Director (Legl/Enf) Aamir Abbas Khan reads.

In a tweet, Pak-EPA DG Farzana Shah writes “together with Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) we will ensure Margalla Hills National Park free of litter, clean, and green Islamabad”.
