KPIC Warns of Action Over Delays in Sharing Public Information

PESHAWAR: Chief Information Commissioner of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission (KPIC), Farah Hamid Khan, has made it clear that government departments must not delay or neglect the sharing of information with citizens. She said that the Commission will not tolerate any failure to provide information as required under the law.

On Thursday, the KP Information Commission summoned Public Information Officers from various departments in response to public complaints about delays or refusal to share information.

The Additional Assistant Commissioner of Karak appeared before the commission in connection with three complaints against the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Kurram. These complaints were about requests for land records, promotion and recruitment details, and information related to solar systems and their beneficiaries.

The Chief Information Commissioner ordered the Additional Assistant Commissioner to provide the minutes of the DPC meeting within 4 days and solar system records within 7 days.

Similarly, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Karak appeared regarding a citizen’s complaint seeking an inquiry report and other documents from the DPO office.

In another case, the District Officer for Soil Conservation in Lakki Marwat also appeared before the commission to address a complaint filed by a citizen.

The KPIC has warned that if its orders are not followed, disciplinary action will be taken under the Right to Information Act. Farah Hamid Khan stressed that access to information is a basic right of every citizen, and departments that fail to respond in a timely manner will be held accountable.
