IHC Orders Show Cause Notice Over Pakistan Information Commission’s Continued Absence

The Islamabad High Court has ordered to issue show cause notice to the Chief Information Commissioner of the Pakistan Information Commission following repeated absences and failure to provide the required records despite multiple notices.
Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, directed to issue show cause notice the Chief Information Commissioner, who heads the Pakistan Information Commission, to explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him for non-compliance with the court’s previous order dated March 31, 2026.
In the hearing on May 12, 2026, Assistant Attorney General Sarfraz Rauf informed the court that the absence of the Pakistan Information Commission, the respondent-1 in the case, had stalled the proceedings, as crucial information needed for the case was still pending.
On the other hand, Respondent No. 2, represented by Advocate Munir Ahmed, emphasized the urgency of the matter and requested that the case be allowed to proceed without further delays.
Justice Soomro, expressing his frustration with the continued absence of the respondent despite clear directions, stated that the court had no choice but to issue the show cause notice.
The case has now been rescheduled for a hearing on June 17, 2026.
