Amir Tehkala Case: Civil Society staged protest demos against police in KP

Peshawar: Civil Society and human rights organizations on Thursday staged protest demos against police in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The people took to street after a video of stripping and abusing Man identified as Amir Tahkal in Police Station went viral on social media. In video, policemen paraded the man naked in the police station.

Police on Wednesday had registered First Information Report (FIR) and arrested three officials allegedly involved in incident. Inspector General of Police (IGP) also sacks SSP operations Peshawar Zahoor Afridi.

Peshawar High Court has also taken Suo moto action of the incident. Moreover, the Chief Minister (CM) Mehmood Khan constitutes three members’ committee headed by the Additional IGP to probe the incident. KP govt also ordered judicial inquiry in the inhuman case.

MNA Mohsin Dawar in his tweet condemn the incident. “Shocked at the way Amir from Tehkaal is being treated by KP Police”, Dawar stated. Senator Mushtaq Ahmad of Jamat e Islami has also raise the issue of #AmirTehkala on Senate Floor.

Sardar Waqar Shahzad Advocate – Social Activist – said, the police officers have insulted their uniforms by assaulting a citizen in such a callous manner.“I strongly condemn the inhumane act of so called “Misali” Police on a common poor man Amir. Exploitation of power has become a norm in the country”, he maintained.
