PIC to Host Training Workshop to Combat Fake News

Karachi, Pakistan: Pakistan Information Center (PIC), a project of the Press Information Department (PID) of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, will hold a two-day training workshop on news authenticity and tools to counter fake news and anti-state propaganda on May 9 and 10. The workshop will take place at a private hotel in Karachi and will be attended by members of the Karachi Press Club, journalists associated with various TV channels and newspapers, and media studies students.

Expert Trainer to Lead the Workshop

The workshop will be led by Senior Trainer, Director News Aaj News, and former CEJ Director Kamal Siddiqui, who will educate participants on using tools to identify fake news and anti-state propaganda. In addition, Karachi Press Club (KPC) Secretary General Shoaib Ahmed and other important personalities will be guest speakers.

Advanced Tools to Identify Fake News and Propaganda

During the two-day training workshop, participants will be taught advanced tools to identify fake news while also being trained to understand global or domestic propaganda against the state. The training will also include sessions on news authenticity and the importance of unbiased reporting.

DG Public Relations to Distribute Certificates and Shields

On the second day of the workshop, Director General (DG) Public Relations (PR) Erum Tanweer will distribute certificates to the participants and hand over shields to the guest speakers and trainers.

Pakistan Information Center’s Ongoing Efforts to Combat Fake News

Pakistan Information Center has so far provided training to more than 10 thousand journalists, media students, and social media influencers across the country. This year, the center plans to provide training to 2000 more journalists and students. The center provides training to journalists in all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Islamabad, to combat the spread of fake news and propaganda.

By hosting the two-day training workshop, Pakistan Information Center aims to equip journalists and media students with the necessary tools to identify and counter fake news and anti-state propaganda, promoting a culture of truthful reporting in Pakistan.
