MQM-P decides not to contest by-elections on vacant NA seats
Karachi: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), a key ally of the ruling alliance, has announced that it will not contest the upcoming by-elections on National Assembly seats that fell vacant after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) de-notified PTI lawmakers.
The party cited the country’s current economic situation as the reason for its decision. The decision was made during a Rabita Committee meeting chaired by MQM-P Senior Deputy Convener Nasreen Jalil.
The decision follows a similar announcement by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) President and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam–Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazl Ur Rehman, who said that the ruling alliance would not contest the by-polls on the vacant seats.
