Millions Logged Out of Snapchat: What Went Wrong?

The popular image, video, and messaging app Snapchat experienced a major technical glitch on Sunday, leaving thousands of users unable to access the platform. The unexpected outage sparked confusion and frustration, with many speculating whether Snapchat had been blocked in Pakistan, similar to the ban on X (formerly Twitter).
According to reports, users across major cities, including Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar, faced severe issues, getting logged out of their accounts and losing access to basic app features. Users complained they were unable to send messages or share photos and videos.

The issue, however, was not limited to Pakistan. Users in the UK, France, and other countries also reported similar problems. Downdetector, a platform that tracks online service outages, revealed that 57% of users experienced unexpected logouts, while 24% had trouble sharing content and 18% faced uploading issues.
Despite the widespread disruption, Snapchat has not issued an official statement, fueling further concern among users. Technology experts suggest the problem may be linked to a server-side error or a recent app update. Some users reported partial access to the app by using VPN services.
Experts advise that Snapchat and other social media platforms should enhance their server monitoring and update processes to prevent such issues from recurring in the future.
