Lahore Traffic Police to Register FIRs for 5 Major Violations

Lahore: In a major crackdown on reckless driving and rising road accidents, Lahore Traffic Police has announced a strict enforcement policy under which First Information Reports (FIRs) will now be registered against five serious traffic violations. Instead of routine challans (fines), violators will now face immediate arrests and legal action.
This new initiative comes in response to increasing public concerns over underage driving, overloaded vehicles, and fatal road accidents. Officials say traditional fines have failed to deter repeated violators, necessitating more impactful and serious consequences.
🚫 Offenses That Will Now Lead to FIRs and Arrests:
- Wrong-Way Driving:
Over 500 individuals have already been arrested for driving against the flow of traffic, a dangerous act often resulting in fatal collisions and massive traffic jams. - Overloaded Loader Rickshaws:
These unsafe vehicles, often piled high with cargo that obstructs the driver’s view, will now be subject to direct legal action under the new policy. - Unregistered Vehicles:
Special focus will be placed on unregistered two-wheelers and cart-mounted motorcycles, which frequently evade routine checks. These will now be strictly monitored. - Underage Driving:
A new legal framework is being drafted under which parents of underage drivers will be held accountable. They may be booked as abettors if their minor children are caught driving. - Reckless and Aggressive Driving:
Overspeeding, dangerous overtaking, and other forms of aggressive driving will now lead to arrest, instead of just warnings or fines.
🚓 Police Perspective:
Officials have emphasized that the goal is to protect lives and ensure road safety across the city. “Fines alone are no longer effective,” said a traffic police spokesperson. “Violators must feel the weight of the law, especially when their actions endanger others.”
The police have also urged citizens to comply with traffic laws, stressing that driving is a responsibility, not a right.
📢 Public Advisory:
Lahore residents are strongly advised to:
- Avoid giving vehicles to minors
- Ensure all vehicles are registered
- Drive responsibly and avoid traffic violations
This new enforcement strategy is being hailed as a bold and necessary move to restore discipline on Lahore’s roads. If implemented effectively, it could significantly reduce road accidents and save countless lives.
