No Love Allowed: Islamia College draws the line on teacher students ties

PESHAWAR – In a major policy move aimed at fostering a safer and more professional academic environment, Islamia College Peshawar has imposed a complete ban on romantic or close personal relationships between faculty, staff, and students.
The decision, formally announced by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Zia-ul-Haq, aligns with the Higher Education Commission’s “Protection Against Sexual Harassment Policy 2020,” the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act 2010 (amended in 2012), and recent directives issued by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 23, 2024.
The official notification, signed by the Vice Chancellor, directs all teaching, administrative, and related departments to implement the policy without delay. It emphasizes that any form of romantic or intimate relationship between teachers and students is strictly prohibited. Such relationships, the notice states, can undermine academic integrity, influence professional decisions, and tarnish the institution’s reputation.

Violators of the policy will face strict disciplinary action, which may include termination, suspension, fines, denial of promotion, or withholding of degrees. The ban extends not only to activities within the college premises but also applies to affiliated institutions, online classes, and all external college-related activities.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the college has also activated a dedicated “Harassment Complaint Cell” on its official website, allowing students and staff to report incidents directly.
