Gomal University establishes the second largest COVID-19 Diagnostic Lab of the province
Peshawar: Gomal Center of Biochemistry and Biotechnology (GCBB) of Gomal University, D. I. Khan has established the second largest COVID-19 Diagnostic Lab at Mufti Mahmood Hospital, Dera Ismail Khan.
According to the details, DG Health, Dr. Tahir Nadeem approached Dr. Muhammad Badar, currently working as Director GCBB, to provide their services to the Public Health Department for upgradation of COVID-19 Diagnostic Lab of D. I. Khan.
Dr. Muhammad Badar with the approval of Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad (TI), shifted the 7500 Real Time PCR system, which was being used for research purpose at GCBB, to Mufti Mahmood Hospital, D. I. Khan and was successfully installed there.
The capacity of COVID-19 Diagnostic Laboratory of D. I. Khan has now been increased to more than 200 samples per day, which was previously limited to 28 samples per day. This makes it the second largest COVID-19 Diagnostic Laboratory in the entire province of KPK. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad thanked Brig. Muhammad Shamraiz Khan (Station Commander, D. I. Khan) and Brig. Dr. Saeed Afsar (DG Health Services, HQ 11 Corps, Peshawar) who provided all the administrative support to Dr. Muhammad Badar, Director GCBB for timely execution of the project.
He specially appreciated the contribution of Dr. Muhammad Badar (Director GCBB) and his team including Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Khan (Assistant Professor, GCBB) and Dr. Saad Salman (Faculty of Agriculture) who provided their technical assistance in bringing this project to a success.
Dr. Muhammad Badar said, this is indeed a great example of the potential of the academic institutions like Gomal University, D. I. Khan. The COVID-19 pandemic has once again highlighted the importance of health and education in the country.
The government needs to spend more into health and education so that we can better cope with such issues in future.
