Governor Praises Punjab Information Commission’s Transparency Efforts

In a significant meeting, Punjab Chief Information Commissioner Syed Mehboob Qadir Shah called on Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman. The focus of their discussion centered on the crucial issue of ensuring access to government-held information for the common citizen.

During the meeting, Chief Information Commissioner Mahboob Qadir Shah presented the annual report for the year 2022-2023 to Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman.

The governor acknowledged the vital role played by the Punjab Information Commission in facilitating easier access to government information, emphasizing its broader public interest.

Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman commended the commission’s efforts, highlighting the positive impact of implementing the Law on Access to Public Information. He noted that this legislative initiative has significantly enhanced transparency and played a pivotal role in curbing corruption within public institutions across Punjab.

Chief Information Commissioner Mahboob Qadir Shah provided insights into the Information Commission’s achievements, citing the facilitation of access to information for ordinary citizens through 2166 requests from various government departments in the past year. Notable decisions were highlighted, including those concerning Gymkhana Club Mall Road Lahore, Sui Gas Housing Society, Judicial Officers Welfare Fund Slums of Punjab, and others.

Syed Mehboob Qadir Shah further revealed the establishment of RTI centers in every district, aimed at enhancing the performance of government institutions and ensuring transparent completion of projects. The meeting underscored the ongoing commitment to promoting transparency, access to information, and eradicating corruption within Punjab’s public sector.
