MNA Ali Wazir Arrested Again in South Waziristan
Ali Wazir, a member of the National Assembly representing South Waziristan and leader of the Pakhtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) , has once again been arrested.
The arrest took place at the Dumdale check post, according to Ali Wazir’s driver, Badshah Pashteen. He was on route to Razmak from Miranshah when the arrest occurred, resulting in his transfer back to Miranshah.
This arrest follows recent events where Ali Wazir had obtained 45-day protective bail from the Peshawar High Court. The bail was granted on a petition filed by Ali Wazir, seeking information about the number of cases registered against him and requesting protective bail. His counsel informed the court that out of the 14 cases registered against Ali Wazir, he had obtained bail in five, while details of the remaining cases were not available.
Stressing Ali Wazir’s status as a legislator and a law-abiding citizen who regularly appears in court, his counsel argued for the need for protective bail to trace cases registered against him in different parts of the province and approach the relevant courts accordingly. It was further emphasized that Ali Wazir had previously endured unjust imprisonment for over two years, but no evidence could be substantiated against him.
Prior to this arrest, Ali Wazir was apprehended in December 2020 in Peshawar, following a request from the Sindh Police based on an FIR lodged against him and other leaders of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) at the Sohrab Goth police station in Karachi. Subsequently, he was also arrested in three other cases registered in Karachi and detained in Karachi Jail.
After being acquitted in a preliminary case by an anti-terrorism court in Karachi and granted bail in three other cases, Ali Wazir now faces new charges in an FIR filed at The Prang police station in Charsadda, including sedition and other offenses.
