Sindh Human Rights Commission Chair Removed Over Harassment

Muhammad Iqbal Detho, the chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, has been removed from his post amid allegations of harassment of women. The Sindh Human Rights Department issued a notification confirming his dismissal under the Human Rights Act 2013, following the approval of the Sindh cabinet, and the commission’s affairs have been handed over to the department.

A sub-committee of the Sindh cabinet conducted an inquiry into the allegations and recommended Detho’s removal. The cabinet accepted the sub-committee’s findings before issuing the formal notification under the Human Rights Act.

Detho had been appointed as chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission with prior cabinet approval. With his dismissal finalized, the Human Rights Department will assume responsibility for managing the commission’s functions until further decisions are made.
