Punjab University Teachers Stage Protest against Director ISCS for Malpractices and Irregularities
Lahore: Faculty members of the Sociology department at the University of the Punjab, Lahore, staged a protest on Monday against the Director of the Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS), Prof. Dr. Rubeena Zakar, citing allegations of malpractices and mismanagement. The demonstrators expressed grave concerns over financial irregularities, management issues, and external interference in institutional matters.
The protesting faculty members highlighted several issues, including alleged financial mismanagement and the director’s frequent misbehavior towards the Sociology faculty. “The director frequently misbehaves with the Sociology faculty members, and the minutes of faculty meetings are always fabricated,” one of the protestors stated.
Additionally, the protestors pointed out that the director’s actions have compromised the academic integrity and administrative efficiency of the institute. They also accused her of favoritism and a lack of transparency in decision-making processes.
The faculty members have demanded an immediate investigation into the allegations and called for the establishment of a committee to address their grievances. They pledged to continue their protest until their demands are met and the issues are resolved.
The university administration has yet to issue an official statement regarding the protest and the allegations against Prof. Dr. Rubeena Zakar.
The protest has garnered support from various student groups and other faculty members who believe that the issues raised by the Sociology faculty are legitimate and need urgent attention.
The situation at the University of the Punjab remains tense as the faculty members remain steadfast in their demands for accountability and transparency within the Institute of Social and Cultural Studies.
