PTI leaders Dr Shireen Mazari and Dr Yasmin Rashid arrested
ISLAMABAD: The police crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders continues, with the recent arrest of senior PTI leaders Dr Shireen Mazari and Dr Yasmin Rashid in separate raids carried out in Islamabad and Lahore.
According to officials, the Islamabad police raided Dr Shireen Mazari’s house during the early hours of Friday, and arrested her. This follows a series of arrests of several other PTI leaders, including Imran Khan, Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Ali Mohammad Khan, and Senator Ejaz Chaudhry. All of these leaders, other than Imran Khan, were arrested under section three of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
In a statement issued by PTI, it was also confirmed that former Punjab health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has been arrested. The reason for her arrest remains unclear.
The PTI has condemned the arrests and accused the government of using state institutions to silence political opposition. The government, however, has defended the arrests, saying that the PTI leaders were inciting violence and causing public unrest.
The arrests come at a time of heightened political tensions in Pakistan, with the opposition parties calling for Prime Minister Imran Khan’s resignation and accusing his government of widespread corruption and mismanagement. The government, on the other hand, has accused the opposition of attempting to destabilize the country and undermine democracy.
