MEPCO Raids Ex-PPP MPA’s Farm, Exposes Power Theft
A surprise operation carried out by the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) at a sprawling 15-acre farmhouse in Sadiqabad, allegedly owned by former PPP MPA Mumtaz Ali Chang, has unveiled a significant case of power theft.
Supervised by Executive Engineer Mohsin Nazir, the MEPCO team, with the assistance of local law enforcement, executed the raid. Notably, the farmhouse was equipped with a staggering 15 air-conditioning units.
During the operation, the team disconnected the power meter and removed illicitly installed wires. MEPCO officials have stated that they are presently evaluating the electricity load to calculate penalties and issue a detection bill for the offense.
In a separate operation, it was revealed that the coordinator of former MNA Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar had also been involved in electricity theft for his residence.
Further investigations by MEPCO teams have exposed as many as 30 consumers engaged in illegal electricity consumption in areas including Zahir Pir, Jajja Abasian, and Junaidwali.
Meanwhile, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has reported detecting a total of 15 instances of gas theft within the district over the last three days.
