Leopard Tragically Dies in Failed Rescue Attempt in Azad Jammu and Kashmir
A leopard, which accidentally hanged itself in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Haryala area, died on Monday, according to the Wildlife Department.
Reported by Dawn, the animal succumbed to hypovolemic shock, as stated in the postmortem report.
The unfortunate incident occurred when the leopard got caught in a wild boar trap on Saturday night in Haryala, a village near Patikka town. Despite attempts to free itself, the leopard became entangled in a tree branch, leading to it hanging upside down throughout the night.
Jazba Shafi, a wildlife range officer, explained, “Some villagers informed us about the plight of the animal at 8:15 am on Sunday following which we rushed our five personnel to the area to rescue the carnivore, but in vain. The animal collapsed at about 1:45 pm.”
Shafi further added that the villagers did not cooperate with the wildlife officials during the rescue efforts.
