FIR registered in journalist Absar Alam attack case

Islamabad: The police have registered the First Information Report (FIR) at the Shalimar police station against unidentified persons for attacking senior journalist and former PEMRA chairman Absar Alam.

The senior journalist was walking in a family park in F-11/2 when an identified man opened fire at him and escaped leaving him injured. Alam was shot in the stomach.

The suspect was wearing shalwar Kameez and tried to hide his face from him, said Absar Alam.

According to reports, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation along with a team inspected the crime scene and collected evidences.

In addition, the video of CCTV cameras installed in the area is also being obtained for further investigation.

Following the attack, a video of the wounded former PEMRA chairman travelling in a car surfaced on social media.

Alam can be heard saying he was walking outside his home when he was “shot by someone”.

“My message to those who shot me: I will not be intimidated,” Alam made it clear.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed while taking notice of the attack had ordered an investigation. Islamabad Inspector General Qazi Jameel-ur-Rehman constituted a special team headed by the Investigation SSP to investigate the attack on Alam. The team has been directed to use all scientific and forensic methods to trace the attackers.
