Comparison of PM’s house expenditure under Imran, Nawaz and Abbasi

ISLAMABAD: The Imran Khan’s government has reduced expenditures of the Prime Minister house by 47 percent as compared to those incurred under Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, The Reporters has learnt.

According to the documents availed through the Right to Information (RTI), during the fiscal year of 2016-17 and 2017-18, PM’s House during the tenure of Nawaz Sharif and latter Shahid Khaqan Abbasi cost the government Rs 508 million each financial year, which dropped to 315 million in the financial year of 2019-20 of the incumbent Prime Minister Imran Khan. However, the allocation for the prime minister’s house was 316 million.

Documents available with The Reporters shows that 45.6 million and 31.3 million rupees were spent from the head of entertainment and gifts during the tenure of former PMs Mian Nawaz Sharif (MNS) and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi respectively, while during the tenure of PM Imran Khan these expenses reduced to 4.8 million, 161 percent less than the expenses of made during the tenure of Mian Nawaz Sharif.

Furthermore, the expenditure incurred on physical assets purchase dropped to 0.44 million, a 189 percent drop compared to Rs 16.7 million, spent by Nawaz Sharif in 2016-17 and 25.7 million spent by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in 2017-18.

Based on documents available, more than Rs 23.6 million rupees were spent on travel and transportation during the FY 2016-17 and 27 million in 2017-18, while Imran Khan expenses were less than 33 and 3.8 percent respectively.

However, contrary to the other expenses, there are couple of section where Imran Khan’s expenses are higher than Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

In Motor Vehicles and Occupancy Cost section head, PM Imran Khan has spent 0.56 million 102 and 70 percent high compared Rs 0.18 million during the tenure of former PM Nawaz Sharif and while 0.27 million rupees in FY 2017-18 of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Similarly, occupancy costs during the tenure of PM Imran Khan in FY 2017-20 are 12 percent higher than the expenses made by in FY-2016-17 and 2017-18.

That data of the current fiscal year shows that Imran Khan has so far not spent a single penny in entertainment and gifts section.

Data show that 7.8 million rupees were spent on marriage/death cases and financial assistance from 2013 to 2017 by the then PM MNS while former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had spent 4 million rupees from discretionary grant during his tenure 2017-18.

However, PM Imran Khan has abolished the discretionary grant and not used a single penny in this regard.

During the Financial Year 2018-19, 3 sets of garden chairs, costs 268500 and 135 Square feet Gym Rubber Mat for Rs 91125 was purchased for PM House. While in Financial Year 2019-20 curtains for Rs 183000 and 76 wooden chairs costs 340600 rupees were purchased for PM House while in Financial Year 2020-21, upto December 21, only 153000 rupees were spent on the purchase of curtains for PM House.
