ASA-CUI discusses nonpayment of Salaries and Adhocism at COMSATS University

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of Academic Staff Association of COMSATS University Islamabad (ASA-CUI) held on June 4, 2020 attended by elected members of seven campuses of CUI. The meeting was called to discuss and strategize employees’ concerns over the prevalent situation of CUI.

The participants showed their serious resentment over the ruthless attitude of incompetent interim management that has resulted in the worst type of administrative and financial governance. A major fraction of employees is still awaiting salary disbursement without any prior information of delay despite of Govt’s directions for its disbursement even before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Despite continuously performing their duties, it is incomprehensible for the employees, why they were not paid their salaries whereas the operational expenses were on the decline and student fees were collected in advance for the spring semester.

The salary delay has added more to the miseries of CUI employees who are badly suffering due to many other crucial issues including merger of adhoc allowances pending since 2010 and ban on appointment and due promotions of faculty due to serious administrative lapses as reported by the Higher Education Commission through a review committee.

These issues were earlier raised before the Minister for Science and Technology, Mr. Fawad Hussain Choudhary on May 30, 2020 via letter (Ref. CUI/ASA-CUI/2020/22) for his consideration as a Pro-Chancellor of CUI.

ASA-CUI believes that interim management of CUI is deliberately damaging the repute of university just to create maximum panic and mess for the new management. It condemns the ruthless attitude of CUI administration and demands immediate disbursements of due salaries thereby even rejecting its disbursements on installments.

ASA-CUI appeals to the Honorable President of Pakistan, being the Chancellor of CUI, the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Minister for Science and Technology, Mr. Fawad Hussain Chaudhry, being Pro-Chancellor of CUI to constitute a high-level independent enquiry committee against the malpractices and financial embezzlements of current interim management. It further demands the end of long-lasted adhocism in COMSATS and its forensic audit to hold the responsible officials accountable.
