Imran Khan’s May 9 Bail Pleas Deferred by Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s petition against the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision rejecting his bail pleas in multiple May 9 riot cases.
A two-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, postponed the hearing until August 12 at the request of Khan’s counsel, Salman Akram Raja.
Khan had challenged the LHC’s June 24 verdict dismissing his bail petitions in eight separate cases, including the attack on Jinnah House in Lahore. In his plea, he argued that the FIR lacked evidence linking him to the violence, pointing out that he was in NAB custody at the time. He also highlighted alleged contradictions in the prosecution’s statements and questioned the credibility of delayed police testimonies.
The PTI founder maintained that the evidence against him is insufficient, especially since several co-accused have already been granted bail. He further claimed the cases carried mala fide intent to keep him under pressure.
Earlier, on November 27, 2024, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) had also dismissed Khan’s bail pleas in the same cases.
