PPP Calls for General Elections within 90 Days to Avoid Crisis
Vice President Sherry Rehman and Party Officials Address Urgency for Transparent and Timely Elections
KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is calling for prompt general elections within the stipulated 90 days as mandated by the constitution. The party stresses that unwarranted delays leading to a constitutional and political crisis should be averted.
Vice President of PPP, Sherry Rehman, emphasized that the party will formulate its future strategy based on discussions with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The decision will be made during the upcoming meeting of the Central Executive Committee in Lahore.
During a press conference at Bilawal House, Sherry Rehman, along with Secretary General Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Shazia Mari, and Faisal Karim Kundi, conveyed the outcomes of the CEC meeting.
The meeting, chaired by Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, focused on the nation’s economic crisis, rising poverty, increased utility tariffs, inflation, and flood relief strategies.
PPP stands firm on the constitutional provision for elections within 90 days. A delegation will meet the Election Commission on August 29 to convey the party’s stance.
PPP raises concerns about the digital census and argues that elections can’t be delayed based on constituency delimitation. The party suggests that if by-elections can be managed, general elections can too.
