SAMAA Digital wins at Pakistan Data Journalism Awards 2019
Former SAMAA Digital staffer Hisham bin Sajid won the Best Data Journalist Portfolio at the Pakistan Data Journalism Awards 2019 while SAMAA Digital’s project Pac-man takes you through dollar’s upward journey in 2018 was shortlisted in the Best Data Visualization for News category.
The awards were organised by the Media Matter for Democracy and were aimed at encouraging “data-driven news reporting and investigative journalism in Pakistan.”
There were 76 nominations in four categories. The entries were published on different forums ranging from digital-only publications to large news media groups that publish across media.
During his time at SAMAA Digital, Hisham’s worked on interpreting and presenting data in simple stories.
SAMAA Digital’s animated project, “2018: A volatile year for the dollar”, which was based on its reporter Farooq Baloch’s story, was shortlisted in the Best Data Visualization for News category. The animated project was created by the video desk’s Najeeha Rehman Quadri (team lead), Rahim Aziz Sajwani (concept), Obair Khan (design) and Feroz Khan (animation).
