KP CM takes notice of Saidu Sharif police violence on three women alleged for theft
Mingora: Chief Minister Mehmood Khan while taking notice of a video of police officials’ inflicting violence on women suspected for their alleged involvement in a theft in Saidu Sharif has directed District Police Officer (DPO) Dilawar Bangash to take strict action against the officials for their inhuman act against women.
It is pertinent to mention here that the video of police officials, inflicting violence on women suspected for their alleged involvement in theft incidents in Swat, went viral on social media on Wednesday.
In the video doing rounds on social media, three police officials of Saidu Sharif PS in simple clothes violently beat up three women arrested by the police allegedly in a case of theft. The police official who incited violence against the suspected women has been identified as SHO Rafiullah.
While talking to media persons, District Police Officer (DPO) Dilawar Bangash said that those involved in an act of inflicting violence against the suspected women would be dealt accordingly.
The DPO said [so far] two SHOs and three police constables have been suspended for their alleged role in violence and a team to investigate the matter has also been formed.
He said that no one was above the law and an investigation team would submit its finding with-in 24 hours.
Dilawar Bangash also said that the suspected women were arrested by the police a day earlier in a case pertaining to burglary at Said Sharif PS.
Social activist Zafar Hayat took a swipe at the police and said that the police officials were supposed to safeguard public lives and property, adding that they have no right to do corporal punishment on any one.
Hayat said subjecting anyone to physical violence is a crime and authorities must punish those police officials for being involved in such shameful acts.
