KPIC Directs KP Police: Promotions Data Must Go Online

PESHAWAR: In a significant move towards transparency and accountability, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission (KPIC) has summoned the Additional Inspector General (Legal) of Police to address citizen concerns regarding promotion cases within the Police Department.

According to details, Citizen Muhammad Iqbal filed a complaint regarding the police department’s refusal to disclose information about promotions from clerk to superintendent. KPIC summoned the Additional Inspector General (legal) of Police, Muhammad Asif.

During a personal hearing, AIG Muhammad Asif was called upon in response to a citizen’s request for information on promotion cases from clerk to superintendent level. The KPIC directed timely provision of the requested data and urged proactive disclosure on the police department’s official website.

Additionally, the KPIC has recommended an inquiry against Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) in Abbottabad and Jehangira for their failure to comply with citizen requests under the KP RTI Act, 2013. These TMAs neglected to provide information on maps, auction records of shops, staff lists, and financial details despite citizen inquiries.

The KPIC’s actions underscore its commitment to enforcing transparency and ensuring public access to information, urging swift accountability measures against entities failing to uphold their obligations under the RTI Act.

The majority of complaints, accounting for 92.5% of the total, have been filed by males, with 544 complaints recorded. Conversely, only 37 complaints have been filed by females, indicating a significant disparity in reporting.

Furthermore, data available on the KPIC website reveals that 10 complaints have been lodged by transgender individuals, emphasizing the commission’s commitment to inclusivity and addressing grievances from diverse segments of society.
