Injuries & Comebacks: Players’ Journey To The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024

By Masooma

It’s every cricketer’s dream to be able to play and win the World Cup, but sometimes, fate plays a cruel trick and leaves players with injuries.

No matter how serious an injury initially may be, every player tries their best to recover from it before any upcoming ICC tournament. Similarly, many players who were in a hiatus are now looking to make a comeback in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

So, let’s go through the list of players who will be making a comeback in the World Cup 2024 after suffering from an injury.

1.   Rishabh Pant:

Rishabh Pant from team India suffered a near-fatal accident in 2022 that forced him to take a 14-months long break.

Fortunately for him, he has fully recovered and will resume playing international cricket from the T20 World Cup 2024.

A brilliant wicket-keeper batsman, Pant is expected to be India’s first-choice wicket-keeper in the T20 World Cup ahead of Sanju Samson.

2.   Anrich Nortje:

South Africa’s Anrich Nortje will be making a comeback after a nine-months long absence from international cricket. He last played a match against Australia in September 2023 during which he suffered from a stress fracture in his back.

The injury ruled him out from ODI World Cup 2023 as well as the entire home international summer.

After performing well in the IPL, Nortje will now be looking to win the ICC T20 World Cup with his exceptional fast bowling.

3.   Jofra Archer:

English pacer Jofra Archer has faced a challenging period. His multiple injuries over the last few years have sidelined him from the national team.

Now after an 11-month long hiatus and signs of progress, Archer will be making a comeback in T20 World Cup 2024.

The ECB will give him the final green signal after judging his performance in the ENG   PAK T20I series.

4.   Taskin Ahmed:

Taskin Ahmed, Bangladesh fast bowler and vice captain, has been included in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad despite suffering from an injury in the recent BAN vs ZIM T20I series.

Ahmed encountered a side strain before the fifth T20I against Zimbabwe on 12th May and missed the match as a result.

However, Bangladesh chief selector said that Taskin Ahmed will be receiving treatment for the next few weeks and their medical team is confident of his recovery before the start of the CWC 2024.

5.   Haris Rauf:

Pakistani speedster Haris Rauf injured himself in the process of taking an impressive catch during Pakistan Super League 2024. Rauf landed awkwardly on his shoulder which resulted in a painful shoulder injury.

He was ruled out of the rest of the PSL and this incident also raised questions regarding his participation in the upcoming World Cup.

Fortunately for him and the Pakistan team, Haris Rauf has recovered from his injury and will be testing his form in the PAK vs ENG T20I series.

If all goes well then he will be making his comeback to international cricket in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after a brief break of 3 months.
