GB govt pledges aid, says flood rehab ongoing

The Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government has pledged compensation and rehabilitation support for families affected by recent rain-induced floods that damaged hundreds of homes, roads, and key infrastructure across the region. Officials confirmed that relief and search operations are ongoing in multiple affected districts.
Unpredictable weather, rising temperatures, and rapid glacial melting have intensified the risk of floods and landslides in GB, with recent disasters leaving at least 10 people dead, several injured, and thousands displaced. More than 500 houses and vital infrastructure, including irrigation channels and electricity supply lines, have been damaged.
According to GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, rehabilitation work is underway in Diamer, Thak, Niyat, Batogah, Thor, Kunar, Tangir, Khanbari, and other severely hit areas. The Babusar Highway has been partially reopened, while search teams — including Rescue 1122, Diamer police, GB Scouts, army personnel, and local volunteers — continue to look for missing individuals, including a family reported lost during the floods.
Efforts are also being made to restore clean water, power supply, and road connectivity, while relief operations extend to Ghanche, Astore, Gilgit, Ghizer, and surrounding valleys. Displaced communities, however, report ongoing shortages of drinking water, electricity, and communication services.
