Petition filed in ECP seeking disqualification of KP Chief Minister Sohaib Afridi

Islamabad: A formal petition has been filed in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking the disqualification of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohaib Afridi. The petition has been submitted by High Court lawyer Sibghatullah Shah.

According to the contents of the petition, Chief Minister Sohaib Afridi allegedly supported candidates of the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) during the bar elections, which, the petitioner contends, amounts to misuse of political and administrative authority. The petition states that this act reflects the Chief Minister’s bias and mala fide intent.

It further argues that Sohaib Afridi has violated Articles 2A, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 25 of the Constitution of Pakistan, and therefore, his conduct falls within the ambit of disqualification both as a member of the assembly and as Chief Minister.

The petitioner has requested the Election Commission to immediately restrain Sohaib Afridi from supporting the Insaf Lawyers Forum and attending related meetings, and to declare him disqualified in accordance with the Constitution.
