Karachi: Pakistan Information Center (PIC) organized a two-day training workshop on identifying fake news and anti-state propaganda in Karachi on May 9 and 10.
The workshop was held at a private hotel in Karachi and was attended by members of the Karachi Press Club, journalists associated with various TV channels and newspapers, media studies students, and journalists and students from other cities of the province who participated in the online workshop.
The lead trainer for the two-day training workshop was Gibran Ashraf. He provided the participants with advanced tools to identify fake news and anti-state propaganda while also emphasizing the importance of journalistic values and ethics. The workshop was not just about recognizing fake news but also about understanding the role of the media in society and its ethical responsibilities.
Guest speakers at the workshop included Karachi Press Club (KPC) Secretary Shoaib Ahmed, who informed the participants about using tools to identify fake news and propaganda against the state. Other prominent personalities were also present as guest speakers.
On the second day of the workshop, Director General Public Relations (DGPR) Madam Erum Tanweer awarded certificates to the trainer, guest speakers, and the trained journalists and students.
PIC has provided training to almost 11,000 journalists, media students, and social media influencers across the country. The center provides training to journalists in all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Islamabad. This training aims to equip journalists and media students with the necessary tools and knowledge to identify and counter fake news and anti-state propaganda.
