Govt considers filing references against CJP: Interior Minister

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah revealed that the government was considering filing references against Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial and two other Supreme Court (SC) justices who were hearing the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) elections case.
Sanaullah stated that the three judges had issued verdicts that were unfavorable to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
He further stated that one of the decisions was regarding Article 63, which was deemed as “rewriting the constitution” by those familiar with it.
Sanaullah claimed that the judges seemed to want to decide the Punjab and KP elections case “by themselves” and refused to accept the verdict of the majority-ruled bench by rejecting the plea to form a full-court bench.
He accused PTI Chief Imran Khan of being responsible for the division within the judiciary and claimed that the PTI government’s reference against Justice Qazi Faez Isa sowed this division.
He further added that the state of division in the judiciary under PDM-led rule was no different from that of the PTI.
When asked about the possibility of removing Imran Khan from politics, Sanaullah responded that in a democracy, only elections were a means to remove someone from politics and all political parties agreed on this point.
He added that if Khan wanted to eliminate them, they would also want him gone.
