Lahore: The Punjab Government has rejected the Federal Government’s decision to close markets at 8:30pm and wedding halls at 10pm.
Provincial Minister Aslam Iqbal while talking to media persons said that the decision was taken in haste and that all stakeholders would be consulted before any such decision is implemented.
Federal Minister Khewaja Asif on Tuesday while a press conference said that the federal cabinet has approved the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Plan, a policy aimed at saving energy.
As part of this plan, the government has decided to curtail the operating hours of markets and wedding halls.
He said, the federal government had announced the early closures in an effort to conserve energy and save the country an estimated Rs. 62 billion.
The government also plans to ban the manufacturing of incandescent bulbs starting February 1, 2023 and impose additional taxes on their import.
In addition, the government plans to shift all government buildings and offices, including courts, to more efficient energy sources and halt the production of inefficient electric devices by July 1.
