KP speaker seeks parental cooperation for polio eradication
Peshawar: KP Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani has urged the parents and other segments of the society to play their due role for complete eradication of polio from the province.
Inaugurating the Polio campaign in Abbottabad on Saturday, Mushtaq Ghani stressed the need for launching a massive awareness campaign among the public about this fatal disease.
The provincial speaker paid rich tribute polio teams who rendered great sacrifices during polio campaigns.
It is pertinent to mention here that administration of polio drops is viewed with suspicion as conspiracies continue to abound on social media and Ghani urged parents and other segments of the society to make them sensitize about the importance of their cooperation.
There are many parts of the country where polio workers also remain vulnerable and relevant departments struggle to meet the targets.
According to a recent WHO report, Pakistan is one of the only three countries in the world (along with Afghanistan and Nigeria) where polio remains endemic.
No report of polio cases after 2010, and reports about the non-existence of poliovirus in parts of the district are some good developments, but the threat of polio transmission still remains and fluctuation in refusal cases due to fake news on social media is an additional point of concern.
