Raftar and CEO Farhan Malik Hit with Rs 10 Billion Legal Notice over PPP Documentary

A political worker affiliated with the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), Aamir Khoso, has served a massive Rs10 billion legal notice on digital media platform Raftar and its CEO Farhan Mallick over a viral documentary titled “How PPP Destroyed Karachi.”

The notice, issued through advocate Hamayoun Sheikh, demands the immediate removal of the documentary, a public clarification and apology, and payment of damages. The legal action comes amid allegations that the documentary contains biased, misleading, and unsubstantiated claims against the PPP and its members.

According to the notice, the video repeatedly portrays the Pakistan Peoples Party as the primary cause of Karachi’s alleged decline, governance failures, and public deterioration. It reportedly presents political opinion and speculation as established fact, employs selective comparisons, emotional language, and one-sided narratives, and exposes PPP members to public criticism, hostility, ridicule, and adverse perception.

The notice cites multiple legal provisions, including the Defamation Ordinance 2002, Sections 499 and 500 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and the PECA Act 2016, along with other civil and criminal remedies.

Raftar and Farhan Mallick have been given 14 days to respond to the notice, failing which Khoso’s legal team has indicated that they will pursue all available legal remedies, including civil, criminal, and injunctive actions.

The notice also emphasizes that the documentary and its promotional material were circulated across multiple social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, further amplifying the alleged harm to PPP’s reputation.
