WJAP condemns FIA’s Witch-Hunt Against Former Senator Farhatullah Babar

Women Journalists Association of Pakistan (WJAP) has expressed deep concern over the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) recent inquiry based on malafide intentions against former senator Farhatullah Babar, a renowned human rights activist based on vague allegations filed by an anonymous complainant .

In a statement issued on Saturday , Founder of WAJP Fauzia Kalsoom Rana has denounced this move as a blatant attempt to intimidate and harass Mr Babar, who has been a vocal advocate for human rights, freedom of press, and expression. Strangely Mr Babar has not been provided copy of the written complaint filed against him, thereby indicating that the intention is to intimidate him through false charges. The Assocation questions the credibility of the complaint and the FIA’s motive behind the case.

WAJP demands that the authorities immediately withdraw the inquiry and cease any further harassment of Mr Babar and the state must publicly apologize for attempting to defame him. the women journalists association of Pakistan stand in solidarity with him and reiterate our commitment towards protecting human rights and freedom of expression in Pakistan.
