Couple Killed in Mastung in Suspected Honour Crime: Police

MASTUNG: A couple was shot dead on Wednesday in Balochistan’s Mastung district, allegedly by the woman’s family in what police described as a case of ‘honour’ killing.
According to Wali Khan Station House Officer Pir Muhammad Alizai, the victims — married for seven years — were travelling from Panjgur to Lakpass with their two children and a relative when they were ambushed near Noshki Cross. “They were asked to wait, after which armed men on motorcycles opened fire, killing both on the spot before fleeing,” the SHO said.
An FIR lodged by the husband’s brother at the Wali Khan Levies station names five suspects under Sections 34 and 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The report cited enmity and a “marriage of convenience” as possible motives.
The incident comes days after a couple in Quetta’s Degari area was killed on the orders of a jirga, for which 14 suspects have since been arrested. Police also reported other recent suspected ‘honour’ killings in Quetta and Rawalpindi.
Rights groups say such incidents remain widespread. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan documented 346 victims of ‘honour’ crimes nationwide between January and November 2024, with Sindh and Punjab recording the highest numbers.
