Abbottabad Police Report Major Breakthrough in Dr Warda Murder Case

ABBOTTABAD: The post-mortem examination of Lady Doctor Warda Mushtaq has been completed, and her body handed over to her family, Medical Superintendent Dr Aamir Israr confirmed on Thursday. A seven-member medical team carried out the autopsy, and the report is now being compiled.

The development comes as Abbottabad Police announced significant progress in the investigation into Dr Warda’s killing, terming the case one of the most tragic incidents reported in the region in recent years.

According to police, Dr Warda’s father lodged a missing person’s report at the Cantt Police Station at 8:45 pm on December 4, prompting an immediate inquiry. Initial findings revealed that in 2023, Dr Warda had entrusted 67 tolas of gold to her friend Rida for safekeeping, but a dispute over its return had escalated, leading to tensions and even a jirga between the two.

Investigators stated that on December 4, 2025, the accused Rida took Dr Warda from DHQ Hospital under the pretext of returning the gold. She allegedly dropped her at her under-construction house in Rehman Street, Jadoon Plaza, where the suspects — Shamariz, Parvez and an unidentified man — were already present. Acting on a pre-planned arrangement with Nadeem Zeb, Rida reportedly handed Dr Warda over to the men before returning home.

Police said they used CCTV footage and CDR data to piece together the sequence of events, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Nadeem Zeb, Rida Jadoon and Parvez. The prime suspect, Shamariz, is still at large, and three dedicated teams — two in Peshawar and one in Abbottabad — are pursuing his arrest.

During interrogation, the arrested suspects confessed to abducting and murdering Dr Warda and burying her in a dug-out area in Lari Banotha jungle. On Parvez’s identification, a police team led by SP Investigation and DSP Headquarters recovered the body, which was later sent for post-mortem.

Police have so far conducted more than 100 raids and interrogated over 35 individuals. They have also seized vehicles used in the crime, along with stamp papers and cheques linked to the gold dispute. The case is being investigated with modern techniques and coordinated teamwork.

DIG Hazara Nasir Mehmood Satti met the victim’s family and expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it “extremely tragic.” He assured them that the police are fully cooperating and that IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed is personally supervising the investigation and has issued special instructions.

A Special Investigation Team has been formed under the supervision of DPO Abbottabad, who vowed that all legal requirements will be fulfilled and the accused will be brought to justice. “Those who commit injustice cannot escape the law, and we will ensure complete justice for the victim,” he said.
