KPIC decides to inspect AWKUM record to resolve pending complaints

A team of the Commission led by Commissioner Riaz Daduzai will visit the varsity capmus on April 12

Peshawar: The KP Information Commission (KPIC) has decided to inspect the record of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) to resolve months’ long pending complaints of citizens.

A team of the Commission led by Commissioner Riaz Daduzai will visit the varsity capmus on April 12 to inspect the relevant record available in the varsity archive.

The sources on Saturday said that the decision has been taken on citizens’ complaints against the varsity management for not sharing information under the right to information law.

The sources said that in this regard a letter has been sent to the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the varsity, informing him that an inspection team of the Commission shall visit the varsity on April 12 this month to inspect records pertaining to the citizens’ complaints.

The inspection team will check the record of the varsity requested by citizens in seven complaints pending before the KPIC.

The KPIC team will also brief administrative officers of the department regarding awareness and dealing with the information requests of the citizens.

Muhammad Naeem – one of the complainants told The Reporters that his complaint under which the Commission team is visiting the varsity is pending before the commission since one-and-a-half-year.

Naeem said the Commission step of inspecting the record is commendable, however he added that it could be done much earlier. He said month’s long delay in deciding complaints has made the RTI law useless for a common citizen.

Naeem therefore said the Commission is showing fake figures regarding disposing of complaints on its website, to hide its inefficiency.  The commission is disposing of the appeal without sharing information with the complainant, he maintained.
